You think they come in for a couple days, review your taxes, and then go on their way after rendering a judgement? Just a minor inconvenience right?…Wrong. What will excite me more is if he uses these resources to start with our politicians first. Nobody hides income and assets more than our Democrat and Republican friends in DC. Wow, it appears that our government is finally going to crack down on this who have NOT been paying their fair share. If you can find ads on national TV for outfits that will reduce what you owe in back taxes, that tells me a number are not paying, otherwise they could not afford the ads. This is simply about fairness.
The IRS has been gutted in recent years and yet this is one of our most important agencies. Cudos for finally recognizing the problem and going after the cheats.
It’s a complete fantasy that more audits will come even remotely close to paying for our massive level of federal spending. The only way that would happen is a tax code that eliminates nearly all deductions and credits, has higher marginal rates, and adds a lot more people to the federal tax rolls, as opposed to the current system that lets half the country off completely.
For all the crapping on the GOP for not being willing to contemplate higher rates, the Dems are not honest enough to admit that their dreams of a European-style social welfare state can only be paid for with a European-style tax burden that reaches far more Americans than is currently the case.
