Beard

Indiana will get its first new insurance commissioner in more than 10 years on June 2, when Amy Beard takes the position, Gov. Eric Holcomb announced Monday.

Beard, general counsel at the department since 2017, will succeed Stephen Robertson, who was appointed to the role in 2010 by former Gov. Mitch Daniels.

Beard joined the state insurance department in 2013 after receiving her law degree from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis.

“Amy has the right skill set, experience and dedication to provide great government service to Hoosiers as they purchase insurance that they need to protect their properties and families,” Holcomb said in written remarks. “Her experience at IDOI has been broad, from her work with the Indiana Patient’s Compensation Fund and on legislative issues, to her command of the required legal and financial filings of insurance holding companies.”

Beard received undergraduate degrees in economics and Spanish from the University of Southern Indiana, where she minored in international studies and served as student body president.

While a student, Beard worked for at Berry Plastics Corp., the Indiana Tax Court, the Indiana Supreme Court, and at law firm Bamberger, Foreman, Oswald, and Hahn.
