Reported cases were down 10% from a nine-week high of 878 on Thursday.
The 7-day moving average of daily cases has risen from 216 to 580 since the beginning of the month.
Meanwhile, statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 jumped from 551 on Wednesday to 591 on Thursday. The last time more Hoosiers were hospitalized due to the virus was June 7, when the number reached 614. The pandemic high mark for hospitalizations was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.
The health department reported two more deaths from COVID-19, raising the cumulative total to 13,537. The state said it has averaged one new death per day from COVID over the past seven days.
The state said more than 2.91 million Hoosiers have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 after an increase of 4,766. More than 2.89 million have received the first dose of a two-dose vaccination.
Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The department no longer issues reports on Saturday and Sunday.

Since the start of this year in #Indiana there have been:
155,509 cases of #COVID19
10,560k hospital admissions and
2,607 deaths due to #COVID19.
Of these, the overwhelming majority (97.94%, 98.6% and 98.2% respectively) have been among those NOT vaccinated.
So the death rate is holding in the 1.5-2% range. I heard a news story from Florida yesterday indicating that around Jacksonville the median age for death from Covid had fallen from 59 to 49 in this fourth wave (which is bigger than anything they’ve seen to date). It’s not claiming mostly older and sick people anymore.
