As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowIndianapolis will host the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s annual convention in 2013, the Washington, D.C.-based organization said Thursday.
The conference is expected to attract 2,500 visitors and generate $2.5 million in spending, according to the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association.
The gathering in Indianapolis will be a first for the NTHP, which has been hosting annual meetings since 1946. The city’s 53 protected historic districts, including 10 in the downtown area, helped entice the organization.
Besides ICVA, the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana and several preservation activists from throughout the state were involved in the selection process.
NTHP is a not-for-profit that supports the preservation of historic buildings and neighborhoods through a range of programs and activities.
