Regarding professor Sheila Kennedy’s politically inspired article about vaccinations, let’s offer facts instead of political hyperbole and disdain for those “red” folks [“Pandemic is example of when identity politics kills,” Aug. 6].

Here’s the law: In Florida, a private business, not-for-profit or government entity can require vaccination for services and employees. They can also test daily and they can ask about vaccinations daily. But they cannot force a person to show documentation that he or she has been vaccinated. The Florida Department of Health also encourages people to wear masks if they cannot socially distance.

More facts: As of Aug. 13, in a list of the number of COVID-related deaths per 100,000 people, Texas ranked 25 and Florida ranked 26. The top three are New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts. Now, perhaps the worst and most despicable fact: President Joe Biden’s team is allowing an insane number of illegal immigrants (from all over the world) to stream into our country, mostly through Texas and Arizona. Many were never tested, and even those who have tested positive are being driven and flown to cities and towns across the country, at taxpayer expense. How disgusting, immoral and uncaring to American citizens is this?

So, Ms. Kennedy, if you truly believe in everything you said, then you should show your vaccination card—your badge of patriotism—everywhere you go. And since your article was purely political, here’s a trick question: I’ve been fully vaccinated, but I just tested positive for COVID. Am I a Democrat or a Republican?
