Taxpayers should demand a competitive bid process on the sale of a township asset. This sounds like pure laziness from the trustee, who is up for re-election next year I believe. Would love to see continued follow up on this story.
As a reminder, the recent track record of the trustee’s office is:
– $340,000 embezzled from 2001 to 2011
– Current elected trustee obtained illegal police license plate for 2011-2014
– Sold a multimillion dollar building without following best practices for a competition offer
IBJ characterized the overall popular perception of the trustee in 2014 as: “the trustee’s office has been under scrutiny in recent years over its financial management practices. Critics have long complained the office spends too much money on overhead and personnel while providing few services.”
Trustee’s name?
It’s also adjacent to the proposed Jungclaus redevelopment.
Would love to know which Democrats got rich off that back room sale.
It would have been great if Mitch’s fellow Republicans and Democrats wouldn’t have blocked him when he came up with the idea to get rid of township government. The idea that it provided a useful training ground for legislators was always a bit laughable…
I recall ten years or so ago there being rumblings of very concerning maintenance issues and redevelopment costs for that building. Never heard if they were addressed (doubtful) and wonder where those issues stand today. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a complete redevelopment after closing.
Why not get ride of township trustees. This is certainly micro-government without benefits — an unnecessary layer.
I’m sure there’s a relative that is getting a commission on the sale of this building related related to the elected track elected trust
