The seven-day moving average of new deaths remained at 17 per day, the health department said.
Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 decreased from 1,729 on Monday to 1,708 on Tuesday. More than 21% of Indiana’s intensive care unit beds are occupied by COVID patients. Hospitalizations reached a recent peak of 2,687 on Sept. 13.
The department reported 2,773 new cases of COVID-19, up from 1,630 the previous day. The cumulative total of cases rose to 991,460.
More than 3.3 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Wednesday at 5 a.m., after a daily increase of 3,916.
The health department said 58.7% of Indiana residents 18 and older are now fully vaccinated, one day after incorrectly reporting the percentage at 60.3%. The department told IBJ that it has been reporting an incorrectly high percentage in that category for at least several weeks due to a technical error.
