Home builders in the metro area filed 339 permits in September, bringing the total to 3,191 through the first nine months, an 11-percent increase from the same period last year.
September’s 22-percent increase trailed only the 40-percent jump in the number of permits filed in February. Permit activity increased 20 percent in both May and July.
Last month’s strong results were helped by an 81-percent increase in Johnson County, where builders filed 47 permits.
Permit filings also rose in Hamilton County, to 129, or 28 percent, and in Hendricks County, to 54, or 17 percent.
Filings in Marion County rose 11 percent, to 51.
Permit activity fell 35 percent in Boone County, where 20 permits were filed.
