Veteran bankruptcy lawyer James M. Carr of the Indianapolis law firm Faegre Baker Daniels LLP has been appointed to a 14-year term as a bankruptcy judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.

His appointment, announced Wednesday, becomes effective Jan. 1.

Carr has been a bankruptcy lawyer since 1975, practicing primarily in the areas of creditors’ rights and bankruptcy reorganization, in which he has represented interests in connection with financially distressed and liquidated businesses.

He is an adjunct professor in business reorganization law at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington, where he received his law degree.

Carr replaces Judge Frank Otte, who will remain on the court in a senior capacity known as “recall status.”

Carr’s selection follows the Friday appointment of Marion Superior Court Judge Robyn Moberly as a bankruptcy judge as well.

Her 14-year term begins Thursday.

Moberly, who has served as a Marion Superior Court judge since 1996, replaces Judge Anthony J. Metz III, who is retiring.
