As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowCOVID-19-related hospitalizations dropped over the weekend after hitting an all-time high late last week, according to the latest numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health, released Monday.
The department said 3,363 people were hospitalized because of COVID on Sunday, down from 3,462 on Friday. Hospitalizations hit a pandemic high of 3,519 on Thursday.
COVID patients occupy 35.8% of Indiana’s intensive care unit beds. The state has 12.7% of its ICU beds available overall.
The department on Monday reported 9,870 new cases of COVID-19, but those were the cases reported solely on Sunday. The cumulative total of cases rose by 36,579 over the weekend.
The state reported no new deaths from COVID, but the cumulative death toll rose from 19,491 to 19,566 over the weekend, an increase of 75.
More than 3.6 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Monday at 5 a.m. More than 1.5 million Hoosiers have gotten vaccine boosters.
The department said 59.9% of Indiana residents 12 and older are fully vaccinated.
