Fairbanks runs an 86-bed hospital as well as an outpatient center for patients trying to recover from drug and alcohol addictions. Last year, its 300-person staff served more than 19,000 patients.
The new project will cost a total of $2.5 million and be completed in the spring. Fairbanks, which operates as a not-for-profit organization, has annual revenue of $21 million.
The organization, which was founded in 1945, recently went through a leadership change. CEO Helene Cross retired in July after leading Fairbanks for 11 years.
She was replaced by Mark Monson, who was previously chief operating officer of Beaver Dam Community Hospitals in Wisconsin.
