The Lilly Endowment has named former Indianapolis Economic Development Corp. president Wallace "Ace" Yakey Jr. as the vice president for community development, the Indianapolis grant maker announced Tuesday.
Yakey has been at the $6.2 billion endowment since 1997, serving as a program director in the community development division, the endowment announced Tuesday.
Before working for the IEDC from 1995 to 1997, Yakey was marketing director at Browning Investments Inc., a real estate broker with Thomas & Associates and assistant campaign director for the United Way of Central Indiana.
At the endowment, Yakey will now head a division that gave out $67.3 million in grants in 2011 for projects focusing on human services and the arts.
The endowment also announced Tuesday it appointed Christopher Coble as the vice president for religion. The division gave out $64.2 million in grants in 2011.
