After enjoying a bump in passenger counts last year, Indianapolis-based Republic Airways posted a decline in January compared with the same period a year ago.
The regional carrier said yesterday that it transported 1.3 million passengers last month, down 2.4 percent from the previous January. In 2008, Republic flew 18.9 million passengers, up 16 percent from the prior year.
The airline holding company owns Chautauqua Airlines, Republic Airlines and Shuttle America – airlines that offer about 1,250 flights a day through airline services agreements with seven U.S. airlines.
Republic is set to announce fourth quarter earnings Feb. 17. Its $17 million third-quarter profit exceeded analysts’ expectations despite dropping 16 percent from the previous year.
