Vice President, Providence Cristo Rey High School
Fred Yeakey started as interim president of Providence Cristo Rey High School in December 2019 and simultaneously helped raise or secure more than $1 million for the school while guiding it through the initial stages of COVID-19. He continues to make his mark with programs such as his barbershop initiative, an after-school club where male youth receive guidance while getting a free haircut, and by convincing more than 80-plus companies to participate in the school’s “earn and learn” model in which students go to school four days a week, then have a corporate internship one day a week. “I’m passionate about helping youth discover their own talents and pathways by being a great person of influence in their life,” he said.
Getting here: Yeakey taught pre-algebra and English in Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana’s Excel Center for nearly five years, then served as dean of students at Indianapolis Metropolitan High School, where he was responsible for the schoolwide disciplinary action program.
First job: He cut grass and shoveled snow in his neighborhood.
