Anna Jetmore-Vargas, who started the office in 2008, had most recently worked at the environmental consulting firm Kerameda Inc.
In 2010, Jetmore-Vargas lassoed a $10 million grant that allowed the city to implement the Better Buildings Program, a neighborhood energy-efficiency initiative.
“Anna’s global perspective and extensive professional experience with municipal sustainability will be a tremendous benefit to the city,” Department of Public Works Director Lori Miser said of the appointment.
The office has worked on numerous environmental projects ranging from vegetation-based runoff control to energy-efficiency upgrades at the City-County Building to the city’s expanded use of hybrid fleet vehicles.
Jetmore-Vargas replaces John Hazlett, who left the post in October for a position at Williams Creek Consulting.
She’s a graduate of Earlham College and has a master’s in environmental management from Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
