Legends in Design is sponsored by the SAFE Coalition for Design, which promotes protection of public health and safety through adoption of nationally recognized interior design standards. SAFE is an acronym for slip resistant, accessibility, fire codes and ergonomics in designs.
The group was established to support Indiana Senate Bill 337, which would recognize national interior design standards. The bill advanced out of committee earlier this month.
Rowland, a longtime advocate of historical preservation, founded her interior design firm in 1968 – the first woman in Indiana to open a commercial design firm. With 14 interior designers, her firm is the city’s third largest, according to IBJ research.
The Legends in Design luncheon will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s Deer Zink Pavilion. R. Craig Miller, curator of design arts at the IMA, will speak. The lunch will be followed by a tour of the museum’s exhibit, “European Design 1985-2005.”
