I read with interest Steven Libman’s June 10 Viewpoint about how the arts community could create more patrons through an arts-focused website and newsletter.

On March 11, Central Indiana Community Foundation launched an online magazine devoted to compelling stories about the arts in order to build more demand.

Sky Blue Window features fresh content daily, and has included stories from WFYI, a former Indianapolis Star editor, award-winning freelance writers and college journalists.

Site traffic has been good, and we are gearing up for more content this fall, specifically with a broader focus on previews (told in our style).

But like nearly all media projects, we are in a race to establish sustainable revenue and support, and like others, don’t have the staff for the supply-side reviews and previews Libman suggests.

Libman also suggests the arts community work together to tell its story. We are working with arts organizations to repurpose content so the organizations may use it in their marketing.

We even featured Libman in a story about his radio show, published May 28, a story he featured on his site one day later. For whatever reason, he failed to mention Sky Blue Window in his Viewpoint.

We think Mr. Libman’s Viewpoint included plenty of innovative ideas and suggestions. And we’ve been doing them for months now.
