Atlanta-based Carbon Motors Corp. said today that Connersville, about 70 miles east of Indianapolis, is among five locations the company is weighing. The others are in Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina and South Carolina.
The company said it has issued a formal request for proposals in each state.
Carbon Motors is the developer of the Carbon E7, a police car that runs on clean diesel and biodiesel technology.
The company said it would invest more than $350 million into the development of the vehicle, which is slated for production in 2012. Roughly 10,000 direct and indirect jobs could be created, with an economic impact of more than $3 billion, within a 10-year period, Carbon Motors said.
If selected, Fayette County certainly could benefit. The county’s unemployment rate is 12.6 percent, more than 4 percentage points higher than the state average.
