    1. Really? You were going to get the money anyways. I am sure we can all make a list of better uses of $240K

    1. No, it is an amoral stance bill. There is no morality in having anyone but the mother decide these issues. It’s between her and her conscience. Interesting to me the state would prohibit abortions, but then let parents make so many decisions for and about their children that will lead to children who are not properly schooled, or not receive appropriate medical care, or learn how to be anything other than a burden on society or a permanent underclass. Can’t have an abortion, but then you can take your child to a snake handling religious group. Or send them off to a cult. Especially in Indiana, which doesn’t like to staff social workers or give them the ability to intervene to stop the abuse.

  1. I find it interesting the penalties apply only to doctors, not to the mothers. In almost any other aspect of criminal law, if I go to you and ask you to work with me to commit a crime, I’d at least be an accessory, maybe a co-conspirator. But I guess no one wants to prosecute the woman who wants to have the abortion performed by a skilled physician in a safe facility with appropriate medical equipment. If she goes home and self-aborts, has she committed a crime? If she and the baby die, will that seem just to the right wing that enacts these anti-abortion laws? If she dies, and the baby survives, where will the right wing be when it comes time to raise and educate that child?

    1. Tim, you are boring. Ask any adoption agency as to the length of their waiting list for newborns, even mixed race and those that are, as you would likely call them, “imperfect.”

    2. Bob P. ~ In your response to Tim, you appear to be willing to sacrifice the life of the mother for the survival of the baby. What is “pro-life” about that? And, in a debate, one who makes an assertion (“waiting list for newborns”) one has a duty to provide the facts that support the claim. Absent you doing that, your response lacks credibility.

  2. Why is there an article on a specific expense the state has incurred? And then with no context?

In a $18B General Fund budget, this is appx 0.000013%. Or to relate to a $100k annual income, $1.30.

As a raw dollar total, was frankly expecting a higher amount, with 150 legislators plus support staff, etc. As a decision, reasonable to spend the “$1.30” to address the topic in a focused way, instead of have it dominate and gum-up a regular session.
