He’ll now be overseeing a wealth of free-lance musicians—including IU faculty members—as executive director for IndyBaroque.
IndyBaroque, which oversees both the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra and Ensemble Voltaire, stages at least five concerts a year using as many as 25 for-hire musicians.
“It’s a low-overhead organization,” Bout said of the company, for which he will be the sole full-time employee. It works with a $150,000 annual budget.
Before leading IndyBaroque, Bout, 34, served as associate executive director for Bloomington’s Buskirk-Chumley Theater. In his new position, he’ll partner with Artistic Director Barthold Kuijken not just on programming and building local audiences, but also on getting what he sees as deserved national and international recognition for the group.
