WTHR-TV Channel 13 announced Tuesday that interim news director Scott Hums will become the station’s director of content and Pittsburgh-based broadcast journalist Nicole Block has been hired as news director.

Block, an alum of Henderson State University in Arkansas, will lead all day-to-day operations and make daily editorial decisions for the Indianapolis NBC affiliate. She will begin her role at WTHR in October.

Ball State University graduate Hums, formerly the station’s director of digital content, will focus on WTHR’s strategic growth across broadcast, digital and streaming platforms.

Michael Brouder, president and general manager of WTHR, credited Block for her legacy newsroom experience and he described Hums as a rising star at the station.

“As our industry continues to evolve, so too have the roles of local news leadership,” Brouder said in a written statement. “I am proud to bring together two proven newsroom leaders who will ensure WTHR continues to provide exceptional news and information across all platforms.”

Hums was named interim news director after Jeff Rosetti, an 11-year veteran at WTHR, exited the news director position in June.

Block, the assistant news director at CBS affiliate KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh, previously worked at stations in Virginia, Texas, Maryland, Florida and Georgia.
