The closures will cost 21 local employees their jobs.
The local stores, in Southport Commons at 4650 E. Southport Rd., and in Castleton at 5856, E. 82nd St., will liquidate their inventory before closing in mid-February, the company said.
Archiver’s, based in Minnetonka, Minn., has 33 stores in 17 states. The 14-year-old company said it has fewer than 30 employees in its home office and an average of 15 employees at each store.
“Over the past four to five years, the combination of a weak economy and new technology resulted in steady declines in the memory craft business, significantly impacting Archiver’s and many other retailers and vendors in the craft industry,” the company said in a letter posted on its web site. “Despite our best efforts, our stores simply do not generate the sales to support the business.”
