It’s very easy to get the feeling that there are few “genuine conservatives” out there because most of them, such as Senator Young, have been incredibly silent while the crazies like Trump and Banks have been the face of the Republican Party.

Jim Banks is not a conservative, at least not in the mold of Ronald Reagan (who Banks likely considers a RINO). No, he is an extremist on the far-right fringe of what use to be the Republican Party. His views, especially on social issues, appeal to the fascist nature of people who don’t respect the norms of American politics, and who certainly don’t accept compromise as a core principle of democracy.
