Major Hospital in Shelbyville has one of the toughest jobs in central Indiana.
It operates in the least populated county of those surrounding Marion County. Yet because of Interstate 74, most Shelby County residents can be on the doorstep of one of the much larger Indianapolis hospitals in just 30 minutes.
But by at least one measure, Major is doing just fine. According to a recent survey, Major earned patient satisfaction ratings for inpatient services that ranked No. 1 when compared with 10 similarly sized hospitals in central Indiana and ranked in the top 2 percent nationally, out of 1,000 hospitals.
Those results were gathered by Press Ganey, a national health care consulting firm based in South Bend. The survey was conducted from November through January.
Press Ganey does not publicly release results about specific hospitals without their permission. Major publicized its own rankings.
“While health care facilities must contend with numerous challenges in reimbursement and regulatory issues, hospitals must never lose sight of delivering high-quality service and outcomes for patients,” said Major Hospital CEO Jack Horner.
Horner was named the permanent CEO this month, replacing Tony Lennen, who resigned in August.
Major Hospital has 56 inpatient beds. It had revenue of about $150 million last year.
