Another Republican who will stoke hate and fear in his quest to get elected. How sad, and disappointing. Ronald Reagan wouldn’t recognize the remnants of his Grand Old Party.
Quite frankly, he made our country more susceptible to this kind of division. His trickle down economic policies have exploded wealth inequality in this country. If you look at great societies throughout history, wealth inequality is what often causes them to collapse.
That’s also what’s fueling the extremes on both sides of the aisle here. Voters on the extreme left want Socialism because of this, and we’ve scene some increase in violence from groups on the left. Voters on the extreme right have done things like trying to overthrow the government, and organize right-wing militia groups. Regular voters on the right don’t realize that the people they vote for are making this problem worse, and they’re blinded by “social issues” right-wing media invents. I’m afraid we’re on the verge of societal collapse at this point.
I certainly think Reagan would be sad to see his party use hate and fear to exacerbate our divisions. I don’t know that he’d acknowledge his responsibility for the mess we’re in, but he certainly wouldn’t be a Trump voter. That much is obvious.
