Last week, I offered tickets to the 16th annual Stutz Artists Open House, happening April 24-25. I also asked you to tell me the first piece of art you can remember making or seeing. Here is a sampling of the many “art you made” responses:

“Etch-a-sketch.” (Debby Blake)

“A construction paper cherry tree for George Washington’s birthday.” (Amy Johnson)

“Pantyhose-potato-people – You take an old piece of hosiery, stuff it with batting and then sew together a face. They reminded me of the Rugrats cartoon.” (Kristy Guthrie)

“Turkey art from tracing my hand.” (Erin Beaver)

“I can’t remember the first piece of art I made, but my favorite was a ‘dot drawing’ of two whales swimming in the ocean with mountains in the background. I created it in 5th grade, and it was on display at the Children’s Museum during their art fair. It is now framed, and hangs in my family room.” (Jen Zentz)

“The first piece of art I remember making is a crayon drawing of a stemmed flower with two leaves. That was also the subject of the second, third, fourth, etc. piece of art I made, which was the earliest sign my creative talents lie elsewhere.” (Tammy Lieber)

“A Christmas tree decoration of a big cardboard star covered with all different kinds of pasta noodles and spray painted gold which my mother has kept since I first made it for her in grade school.” (Kris Arensman)

“A brown, heart-shaped ash tray with a smiley face inside of it.” (Laura Fox)
