TechPoint today announced the finalists for its annual Mira Awards, which honor the state’s top-performing companies, schools and individuals in technology-related pursuits.

Four panels of independent judges narrowed a record number of nominees down to 63 finalists in 11 categories for the technology-focused business-development group’s 10th annual honors. The winners will be announced May 16 at the Mira Gala at the Westin hotel in downtown Indianapolis.

The awards are co-sponsored by the Indianapolis office of Springfield, Mo.-based accounting firm BKD LLP.

“To receive a record number of entries into the Mira Awards competition and to see so many technology-related companies thriving – particularly during the current national economic downturn – is a real testament to the strength of Indiana’s tech sector,” said Jim Jay, president and CEO of TechPoint, in a prepared statement.

Indiana’s high-tech economy employs more than 71,000 people with an annual payroll of $4.2 billion, according to the 2009 TechAmerica CyberStates report.

Eight companies were named Mira finalists for Innovation of the Year: ExactTarget (Indianapolis), ComfortMotion Technologies (Anderson), Precise Path Robotics LLC (Carmel), AIGalCo LLC (West Lafayette), Intelliphage Inc. (West Lafayette), LacPro Industries LLC (Fort Wayne), Solstice Medical LLC (Fort Wayne) and Swift Enterprises Ltd. (West Lafayette).

Other award categories include Information Technology, Information Technology Gazelle, Health & Life Sciences, Health & Life Sciences Gazelle, Excellence in Corporate IT, Healthcare IT Innovation, and Advanced Manufacturing/Transportation, Distribution and Logistics.

Education award categories are Education Contribution (Team), Education Contribution (Individual) and Education Contribution (K-12).
