The Athletic Annex, at 1411 W. 86th St., has been operating for more than 30 years and is owned by longtime local businessmen Bob Weddle and Thom Burleson.
“We believe Bob’s expertise and national reputation will help Athletic Annex grow into the future and continue our trend of providing the best product and services to the central Indiana running and walking community,” Burleson said in a prepared statement.
Kennedy is a two-time Olympic runner, 20-time Big Ten champion and four-time NCAA champion, and set the American record in the 5,000 meters while at Indiana University.
He co-founded locally based BlueMile but sold his share before the purchase of the chain in 2013 by Denver-based Running Specialty Group. He jumped back into the running business by buying the three-store San Diego chain Movin Shoes Inc., where he serves as president.
