Indianapolis-based Delco Foods is converting its fleet to compressed natural gas and will anchor a new CNG station on the northwest side.

GAIN Clean Fuel Station, a division of U.S. Oil, broke ground on a station at 8775 Zionsville Road, not far from Delco’s distribution center and headquarters. The station is expected to be complete in December and will be open to the public.

Delco, a multistate food distributor, made a 10-year commitment to buy fuel through GAIN and is also converting its 17-vehicle fleet to run on CNG. Delco said it’s investing $3 million in the CNG-conversion project.

Delco follows in the footsteps of beer-distribution giant Monarch Beverage, which in 2012 built a CNG station on Pendleton Pike to accommodate its own fleet.
