House Bill 1360, authored by Rep. Sue Errington, D-Muncie, applies the standards of practice of health professions to certified massage therapists.
Current law governs and certifies massage therapists through the professional licensing standards of practice.
Errington said 21 other states recognize massage therapy as a health profession. The bill would not expand the scope of the therapist position but simply sets a code of conduct. She said if the bill passes into law, consumers will have an extra layer of protection.
HB 1360 passed 71-25 and moves to the Senate for consideration.
