Outside of one time fun money like Ballard’s various “sales” there just isn’t the money there to fund our roads and infra the way they need to be funded outside of a huge tax increase or a lot more people moving here overnight.

Just like the ad running on him…”Gee…uh…uh…uh.” Not a huge fan of Hogsett, but Shreve is not the right change. Maybe a better candidate will come out for the following mayoral election. If the world still exists at that point…
And it will be a cold day in hell before this Democrat votes again for ANY Republican.
Marion County Republicans have had since 2014 (when Greg Ballard said he wouldn’t run again) to come up with ideas and alternatives to Joe Hogsett.
Hogsett isn’t popular but I don’t know that he’s hated enough to enable Shreve to win an election. This election reminds me of 2011, when Melina Kennedy ran for office and … I’m still not sure why she did.
Melina would have been an amazing mayor. Wish she would run again.
Hogsett has presided over one of the worst 8-year periods in recent Indianapolis history. Time for a change. The crime statistics alone are a dereliction of a mayor’s most important duty.
Shreve is a good man and it takes serious intelligence to build a company the way he did. He is in no way a Trump supporter (never voted for him and never game him any money).
There is no incentive for any Republican to run for this office because it is extremely difficult to win (Hudnut and Lugar wouldn’t stand a chance). Jefferson is running because he loves the City and wants to see change. His website has pretty detailed thoughts on infrastructure.

Total buzzword bingo. And Trump gave the same spiel about “I’m a businessman, I know how to build stuff”. Remind me how that played out.
And besides, if you’re mayor and spending all your time micromanaging how roads are being built? Your job as mayor is to hire the right person to handle that kind of stuff, not to do it yourself.
Shreve threw in the towel in fighting for the city’s fair share of road funding in the primary. If I had to wager a guess, once in office, he’s probably propose to sell off some more city assets for another short term infusion of cash, just like Ballard did… a terrible idea as we will eventually run out of assets but still be left with bad roads, while whatever donors to Shreve that miraculously ended up with the assets get rich for a long time.
Hogsett at least has been trying to lay the groundwork to make it a regional issue, reminding all the donut counties that the stuff they’ve built is going to need to be fixed soon enough and their tax dollars are, just like Indianapolis, being stolen and sent to parts of Indiana where no one wants to live.
It is difficult for Republicans to win because they don’t come to the plate with any serious ideas, and they have the disadvantage of Statehouse Republicans making it clear they don’t have ideas to move the city forward, they just know what they want the city of Indianapolis to NOT do.
If the Aaron Freeman’s of the world fought as hard for equitable road funding as they do against things like right turn on red or IndyGo lines on Washington Street, maybe the office wouldn’t be so hard to win?
(And yes I know Freeman got some technical fix through that got Indianapolis a drop in the bucket more funding. Big whoop.)

He did not attack the Signia hotel generally. He is in favor of adding the hotel! He spoke out against the city owning the hotel! They are two different issues and not speaking out of both sides of his mouth! The guy has 30+ years of real estate development experience and has worked with numerous communities to develop properties! Like many things, Hogsett had years to address the hotel and waited for the election year to use the City’s credit rating to buy his way out of problem. Hogsett has had eight years, it is time for a change!
Shreve is an empty suit. Scare tactics (crime, crime, more police, crime). Proposals that are the same as Hogsett’s or something Hogsett is already doing with the empty caveat that he could do it better. Says he can get things done at the State House that anyone with a brain knows he can’t get done. Blah, blah, blah.
I mean, if having record-setting homicide rates for multiple years in a row is merely a “scare tactic”, what should the constituents of Indianapolis be truly worried about? Not having an inclusive and equitable policy that finances gender-affirming care for the toddlers of City employees?
the issue here is that Shreve is saying he will get everything done that Hogsett ran on in 2015…. which is funny because suddenly Hogsett is saying he will do everything he ran on in 2019…
Do you even know him. His record on the City Council is pretty strong! No mayor in the history of Indianapolis has served on the City Council. Shreve has been through numerous budget cycles, server on numerous committees that will give him an advantage to do the job! The empy suit (to use your phrase) is Hogsett. Eight years and we are worse off. You say Shreve is all about crime….you clearly do not read the paper, not have you looked at Shreve’s plan for the downtown, the animal shelter and the other plans on his website! As for the statehouse work Robert…your approach is much like Hogsett’s. He has rarely tried…that is why he needs to go! It is time for a change!
