Cannot stand Shreve. Opportunistic narcissist who has zero experience to address the complexities of a large city. While I’m not exactly a fan of hogsett
…he is by far the better of the two candidates. Go away, Jefferson. You’re not going to buy the position of mayor of Indy.
I would normally agree with you / but I’m willing to take a chance on changing to another pasty white guy who might have a single leadership skill…
Michael G….you can have an opinion…but that is all it is and you cannot represent it as fact. Shreve’s time on the city county council and several commissions makes home more qualified than Hogsett was when he was elected. Further…Hogsett has never build anything. Shreve built a company from nothing into one of the most successful companies in the self storage industry. Shreve….based on facts…is the “far” better candidate. Hogsett has had eight years…and we have murder rates over 200 for three years running…murder solve rate of 35% (it was over 80% when he took over)….numerous crimes like auto theft are not even being pursued due to a lack of leadership from Hogsett. We deserve better…it is time for change.
The last time folks were encouraged to vote for a Republican businessman because “what do you have to lose?” … turns out there was quite a bit.
Given the current anti-Indianapolis bias at the Statehouse I fear they’d use Shreve’s inability to get things through a majority Democratic CCC … to revamp the CCC in ways Indianapolis voters might not like. When I see what is going on in states like Texas, I don’t see that as something that wouldn’t be attempted here.
Opportunistic?! What financial windfall opportunities come from being a mayor of Indy? This is a thankless and agonizing job. He is the only mayoral candidate to have served on the City Council first. That experience coupled with running a successful large business…you might want to reconsider.
He was appointed twice by Republican caucus and never ran for the CCC on his own.
He was appointed when Jeff Cardwell resigned in 2013 to work for Mike Pence and didn’t run for re-election in 2015.
He was appointed in 2018 to replace Jeff Miller due to his legal issues and declined to run for the seat himself in 2019.
So, what, one combined term of experience?
He’s never won a general election and lost in his primary run for state senate in 2016. His first election he ever won was in May.
So you’re hoping the bullpen guy can be a starting pitcher … which sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t.
anyone is better than Mayor Joe.
Ask any of the dead kids.
Was very sad the they spent time on worries over animal shelter, but no discussion as to homelless and kids affected by this and hunger. Society seems to put more empahsis on pets and animals rather than a concern for children and their future, very sad.
Also, very unethical for WISH to run a Shreve ad at the break and then again immediately following the debate. Almost appeared as an endorsement. News medias are to be neutral if properly serving the public. These ads could have been held to a later time.
The two moderators did an excellent job with questions and keeping all in order. One of the best debates I have seen in awhile.
That is called capitalism….
A prime example of Shreve simply trying to buy this office James!
This mayoral race was over before it ever started. Marion County is probably
70 % Dem with a third of the base voting Dem 90% of the time.
That said Shreve has run a horrible campaign.
Most of the crime is not downtown and Shreve doesn’t live downtown, so he’s just listening to scared suburbanites like himself. I’ve lived downtown for several years and my perception and reality disagrees.
Shreve said the landlord registration was well-intentioned, but not enforced, ignoring the fact that the super majority of his own party preempted the Indy ordinance. So, Shreve, the city cannot enforce a non-law.
8 years seem like enough time to get his platform executed.
Time to move on new blood new ideas.
