As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowDefense and aerospace contractor Raytheon Co. plans to move 250 jobs to Indianapolis as part of a consolidation of plants in Chula Vista, California, and Norfolk, Virginia.
Gov. Mike Pence, Raytheon executives and officials for the Indiana Economic Economic Development Corp. have scheduled a Monday afternoon press conference at Raytheon Technical Service Co. LLC, 6125 East 21st St., to officially announce the local expansion.
"The move allows us to improve our efficiency and competitiveness for our customers," Raytheon spokesman Mike Doble told WVEC-TV Channel 13 in Norfolk.
Raytheon's local work includes manufacturing, development and support of aircraft-weapons technology, mostly through military contracts.
Doble did not say how many jobs would be moved from each location. About 300 people work at the Norfolk facility.
Raytheon Co., headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, employs 61,000 employees worldwide and had 2014 sales of $23 billion.
