bank manager bungled an attempt to cover up his theft by locking his
keys inside the vault after setting a fire there.
Police arrested 31-year-old Dwayne Roberts on arson and theft charges. Police
Sgt. Matthew Mount said Roberts had apparently been stealing money from
a Fifth Third Bank branch on the city’s northwest side for several
months.
Roberts tried to hide his theft by setting a
fire in the vault before closing the branch yesterday, police said, but as he left the vault, he dropped his keys and locked them inside.
Bank
officials have not yet determined how much money is missing, but
investigators reported finding $6,000 in the trunk of Roberts’ car.
Roberts was being held today in the Marion County Jail.
