    1. She declined to do so.

This is a legitimate request. Public money flows into the museum through the Arts Commission and federal/state grants.

  1. The only thing dumber than this is IBJ “reporting” on it. Can anyone imagine the FFA wanting an explanation for a change in leadership at the Children’s Museum?
Democrats doing Democrat stuff with the “journalists” carrying their water as always

    1. Can’t say Chuck is wrong.

People get fired for a reason and in this scenario, race always has to be at the forefront.

“Content of their character, not the color of their skin” will not be found in this story…

  2. Would it be better if the press release carried the standard, “she resigned to spend more time with her family.” It is a personnel matter and, unless she decides to make a statement, we will never know.
The local tax dollars granted to the Museum were put in place nearly 50 years ago when tax dollars were dedicated to sports facilities. And face it, the arts receive a pittance in comparison. These dollars cannot be used to leverage the public disclosure of personnel matters.

    1. Actually, yeah they can be used for that purpose, and should be. When the public funding began, isn’t the issue.

  3. Does IBE, Urban League, or Indianapolis Business Journal stop and consider that the Board Chair of the Newfields trustees is a black woman, at least six of the trustees are black, and the new IMA Director is black and maybe everyone did the right thing and the matter of Ms. Burnette’s departure is not public business. Why do Newfield’s trustees “owe” an explanation to anyone? I don’t have a negative perception about an organization that declines to discuss employment and personnel matters in public. I know, to quote Mr. Venable, “traditional, core white art audience” members that are upset by the departure of Burnette too. It is unfortunate this happened.

    1. John F. – let’s not let anyone look at the facts, just rhetoric by political groups with an agenda at the foundation of their mission statement…

      Yawn.
