The journey continues to the death of college sports as we all have known and loved. Even the NFL has a salary cap and produces the most competitive of all professional sports. (It also has a salary floor to ensure that players are compensated fairly.) To allow schools to pay players what they want and can afford will destroy whatever level of competitiveness still exists today (which already is not much). This compounded by the recent decision by the CFSC to exclude Florida St. in preference to Alabama as if FSU only had one player (who unfortunately got injured) who was responsible for going undefeated and worthy of playing for the championship just shows how its all about the Benjamins and nothing else.
Maybe I’d feel bad for schools if they weren’t paying coaches massive amounts of money to not coach.
There’s enough money to pay players for the full-time jobs they’re taking to play intercollegiate athletics. The era of student athletes ended decades ago.
But wait, aren’t most Div 1 athletes on scholarships already? Isn’t this paid free college? I think that is a pretty good paycheck myself after sending a child to college not that long ago at full price!
Yes, they’re on scholarship. They’re also only allowed to take a limited number of majors that don’t interfere with being year-round, full-time athletes.
