Toyota senior manager Steve Pride said the Industrial Equipment Manufacturing campus was about 250,000 square feet when it opened 25 years ago and has been expanded numerous times since then. It will be just over a million square feet after the upcoming expansion, to be completed in September 2016.
Tony Miller, a Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturing Inc. senior vice president, told The Republic of Columbus that the original intent of the latest expansion was to establish a facility for the division's headquarters, but now also includes a new cafeteria and more locker room space.
Toyota has about 1,100 workers in the manufacturing facility, along with about 175 people working in sales, marketing and distribution.
The plant has produced more than 500,000 forklifts since it opened. The majority of all Toyota forklifts sold in North America are produced at the plant.
