  1. If the parents didn’t go to college, it is more likely their children won’t go either. Similarly, if parents don’t impress upon their children the value of a college degree, it makes it easier to justify not getting one.

    Yes, there are some trades where a journeyman can make a decent living, but there is often no path to advancement for the plumber, electrician, carpenter, etc. But a college graduate today will, on average, make $1.2 million ($30,000 a year more) over their lifetime.

    Every parent should persuade their children to experience at least one year in college. It could be the eye-opening difference between a better future or a mediocre one.
