The Syracuse, New York-based chain issued a written statement Friday saying that it has decided to focus on locations closer to its home.
“We have decided not to move forward with operating a location in Indianapolis,” the statement said. “At this time, our future development will focus in and around our core area of New York and the Northeast.”
Dinosaur Bar-B-Que had planned to take the corner space at Meridian and Maryland streets formerly occupied by Nordstrom in Circle Centre mall.
But exterior design plans presented in February to the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission received a chilly reception. Large graphics and paintings of pigs on metal panels that would adorn the mall’s exterior were particularly concerning to commission members.
Even so, the two sides seemed to have resolved their differences, according to IHPC documents.
Founded in 1988 in Syracuse, the chain has 10 locations in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Meantime, Cincinnati-based Nada, an upscale Mexican eatery, is moving forward with its plans to open in space to the west, next to Yard House on Maryland Street. The restaurant is expected to open early next year.
