Frequent travelers who hope to avoid long security lines at the Indianapolis International Airport now can register on Saturdays for the U.S. Transportation Security Administration’s popular PreCheck program.

The private company that contracts with the TSA, IdentoGO, announced Wednesday it would expand its operations by testing Saturday enrollment hours in Indianapolis and a handful of other U.S. cities. The expansion is expected to serve an additional 2,300 travelers each month. Previously, customers could only register for the program on weekdays.

The first TSA PreCheck application office in the nation launched in Indianapolis in 2013. Those enrolled in the program, which serves more than 1.5 million customers nationally each month, don’t have to remove shoes, laptops, liquids, belts or light jackets when they go through most security checkpoints.

As of August, more than 26,000 travelers were enrolled in TSA PreCheck in Indianapolis, according to the TSA.

“Interest in TSA PreCheck continues to grow as more Americans realize the advantages of an expedited security screening experience,” said Charles Carroll, senior vice president for identity services at IdentoGO.

The program costs $85 for five years of enrollment and takes a few weeks to complete. Once a passenger fills out an application online, he or she can make an appointment at the airport where an official verifies official documents, takes fingerprints and sends the information to the TSA for review and approval.
