Compromise is possible to resolve LGBT issue

In your Oct. 5 issue [Governor seeks LGBT compromise that keeps state out of spotlight], Curt Smith is quoted as saying compromise might be impossible on the LGBT/religious freedom issue in Indiana. Your article explained the issues well and briefly—so I’ll be brief.

If the “Utah compromise” won’t fly in Indiana, I’ll offer a Hoosier compromise: No one should be required by law to personally serve at any event that offends one’s beliefs.

But if one’s business offers a service, the company cannot deny that legal service—the law must also not prohibit the business from assigning said service to another provider as long as the contract is fulfilled.•
