Indiana farmers make progress planting corn, soybeans-WEB ONLY

Indiana’s farmers made quick progress last week planting corn and soybeans thanks to good weather that dried out fields after several rainy weeks. The U.S. Department of Agriculture said 55 percent of Indiana’s corn had been planted as of Sunday. That’s up from 24 percent a week before, but 19 days behind the average pace. Typically, 89 percent of the state’s corn is in the ground by late May. Twenty-five percent of the state’s intended soybean acreage had been planted by Sunday, behind the average of 64 percent.
