Patrick Rooney, who helped turn
IUPUI’s Center on Philanthropy into a premier research center, has been chosen
as its executive director, IUPUI Chancellor Charles Bantz announced today.
Rooney is an economist who became the center’s first full-time research
director in 1999. He has been serving as interim executive director since
Eugene Tempel left the position to become president of the Indiana University
Foundation in September 2008.
Una Osili, assistant professor of economics and philanthropic studies, is the
interim director of research. The search for a full-time research director
continues.
“Philanthropy is at the heart of meeting people’s needs, enriching their lives,
and uniting communities,” Rooney stated in a press release. “The Center on
Philanthropy equips the people involved in philanthropy to carry out those
vital missions.”
Rooney mentioned several goals for the center, including enhancing academic,
training, and research excellence; expanding programs internationally; and offering
an undergraduate degree in philanthropic studies.
