Alcohol sales of any kind in Indiana have been banned on Christmas Day since 1919.
But the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission said Tuesday that Hoosiers can buy alcohol at any restaurant, bar, liquor store or grocery store that's open on Christmas Day. That's because of a change in state law that took effect in July.
The exception is in years when Christmas Day falls on a Sunday, as it will next year. In such years, liquor stores and grocery stores cannot sell alcohol, but people can still order alcoholic drinks at bars and restaurants.
More than 100 Speedway stores in Indiana, including 18 in Indianapolis, were cited for selling beer on Christmas in 2013.
