The funds will go toward a three-year project focused on the factors that influence men and women to make charitable donations. It will build upon the school’s prior research into how women’s and men’s preferences for giving differ.
Donor education, household decision-making, demographics, technology, life cycle and new forms of fundraising such as crowdfunding will be taken into consideration during the study.
The project will also examine donors who are supporting charities that aid women and girls. The results of the research will be available for donors, not-for-profits and others interested in the information.
“This new grant acknowledges that while knowledge about gender and philanthropy has come a long way in a relatively short period, we have barely scratched the surface and many key research questions remain to be answered,” director of the Women’s Philanthropy Institute Debra Mesch said in a written statement.
