Both Purdue University
and Indiana University are raising math requirements
for those entering college in 2011. Purdue will require all incoming students
to have taken four years of math in high school, making its math requirements
the toughest in the Big Ten Conference.

Indiana University will require students to come
with seven math credits, or three-and-a-half years of high school math.

Other Big Ten schools require a minimum of three years of math for all
students, with some majors requiring more.

Administrators say math classes can help students be prepared for the rigorous academics
in college.
