Indiana is creating six new courts that will specialize in resolving the complex disputes that often arise involving some of the state's businesses.

Judges in Allen, Elkhart, Floyd, Lake, Marion and Vanderburgh counties will preside over the commercial courts for a pilot project authorized by the Indiana Supreme Court.

Those judges will begin hearing cases in June in which the parties have agreed to have disputes resolved through the specialized docket.

The high court says the new courts will help resolve complex business cases more efficiently.

The court says the commercial courts will also help businesses by promoting earlier and more frequent settlement of cases and more predictable resolutions of business disputes.

Commercial courts were first created in the U.S. in 1993 and now exist in more than 20 states.
