Subscribe NowWaste management giant Republic Services Inc. plans to spend $13.6 million on a customer resource center in Fishers that could employ as many as 469 workers by the end of 2025, the company announced Thursday afternoon.
The Phoenix, Arizona-based company said it will lease, renovate and equip 68,000 square feet of office space in a Class A building at 10194 Crosspoint Blvd., along the west side of Interstate 69, south of 106th Street. The office is expected to open by Sept. 1.
The facility is one of three customer resource centers, or CRCs, that Republic plans to open over the next two years. The three centers will consolidate more than 100 existing customer service centers. The other two centers will be located in Phoenix and Charlotte, North Carolina..
The new facilities “will allow the company to provide better customer service in means such as voice, email, text, social channels and others,” Republic said in a press release earlier this year.
Republic, a Fortune 500 company with 31,000 employees and 15 million customers in 39 states, already has more than 1,500 employees in Indiana.
“With the creation of the Republic Services Customer Resource Centers (CRCs), we are taking an important step toward transforming our customer experience, and we believe Indiana is the right place to do just that,” said Joe Burkel, senior vice president of customer experience, Thursday in a written statement. “The state-of-the-art Fishers CRC will bring advanced technologies and additional professional customer-service jobs to the community, and will allow Republic to focus on delivering consistent and superior service to our valued customers.”
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Republic up to $4.5 million in tax credits based on the job-creation plans. The IEDC said the company won’t receive the tax breaks unless it meets the job commitments.
The Fishers’ City Council will also consider an economic development agreement at a meeting March 21. The agreement includes a 10-year traditional personal property abatement valued at nearly $124,000.
Republic, founded in 1996, is the second largest non-hazardous solid-waste management company in the United States, behind Waste Management Inc. The company services commercial, industrial, municipal and residential customers through 340 collection operations, 198 transfer stations, 189 active landfills, 60 recycling centers and more than 70 landfill gas and renewable energy projects.
The company on Thursday reported a 2015 profit of $749.9 million, or $2.13 per share, on revenue of $9.12 billion.
Republic stock closed at $43.82 per share Thursday, up almost 8 percent over the past year.
