A Ways and Means meeting this afternoon is expected to focus on a way to fix the Capital Improvement Board, which runs the city’s convention center and professional sports stadiums. The bill as proposed in the special session would allow Indianapolis to raise car rental, hotel and event-admission taxes to help close the board’s $47 million budget gap.
But some expect gambling to become part of the proposal. Democratic Rep. Charlie Brown of Gary wants to offer an amendment that would allow one of Gary’s two riverboat casinos to relocate. The committee could consider other gambling measures.
