  1. There’s a disproportionate burden for seniors on a fixed income. How to address this needs more creative solutions that are as fair as possible to the overall funding needs of the state. Freezing current rates for retiring seniors until the property charges hands may be a reasonable approach. Taxes should reflect the capacity for income generation and account for it’s absence.

  2. Freezing the rate until the property sells is like kicking the can down the road. While it was mentioned that young families can’t afford additional expense, it is also true that they should shoulder the burden of education proportionately. Seniors have paid their share. Seniors have paid a lifetime for the services provided and should receive relief from their property tax burdens, it is necessary for them to keep their homes. Personally at 74 I still have to work to pay expenses, property taxes and needed meds.
